People
with mental illness are always being told what they cant do. In this show
they get to prove what they CAN do!
Bringing
David in to work with your clients and run a Stand Up For Mental Health program
in your city is a great way to reach the public and fight stigma around mental
illness. Because this project is so unique and innovative, its usually quite
easy to get a lot of media
coverage. And if you want to get entrepreneurial, you can use the shows as
a fundraiser to offset the costs of putting on the program.
David offers
a variety of different options from a 6-week program culminating in a showcase
to a year-long program with ongoing classes and shows. Heres how it works:
Distance Modules: Your organization
would need to recruit 4-8 participants from your client base. Classes are delivered
via teleconference. David also goes over the comic's acts and gives one-on-one
feedback via phone and email. Each student also gets the Stand Up For Mental Health
workbook.
On-Site Modules:
Depending on the length of the program, David flies in one or more times and does
workshops with the comics, teaching them timing, delivery, and performance techniques.
Shows: The shows
can be done at public events to raise awareness and fight stigma around mental
illness, an AGM, staff and volunteer appreciation event, or any other events you
can think of. As far as were concerned, the bigger the audience, the better!
Publicity: Stand
Up For Mental Health will supply you with a customized news release promoting
the event and work with your communications people to get maximum exposure. The
media loves this story. We've been featured in newspapers, magazines, and on radio
and TV aross North America. Click here for some examples.
This coverage we'll get for your event helps draw attention to the show, fight
stigma and raise awareness for your organization. So often the media uses negative
stereotypes to portray people with mental illness. This is a chance to get some
positive news coverage and depict people with mental illness as funny, resourceful,
and likable.
